Artist statement:
I have often felt privileged to be living at this precise moment in history because the challenges posed to the artist are so extreme that it demands a tremendous commitment to, not only the craft of painting, but to the exploration of one's own psychology, and spirit.
So much has been done and the bar has been raised so high that it inspires me to look even deeper into the unexplored frontier of my own imagination.
Most of my work has been an expression of images that have haunted me for years. In addition, I have often tried to depict situations that have moved me but remain unpaintable. The passing glance, the uncomfortable silences, the passage of time in a day. More and more I recognize how my subconscious imposes itself onto everything that I think I am making.
At this point I trust more in the automatic responses I have to the canvas and hope that the image will reveal itself with a sincere clarity.
It makes the work changeable but it's the best way that I know to uncover images that excite me.
I paint what I am learning, what I am thinking about, and what I am currently obsessed with; this is where I live.
